Support the approval of the Logan Square Neighorhood Plan
The Philadelphia Planning Commission is scheduled to meet to consider the Logan Square / Parkway Plan at their January 19, 2010 meeting. The Logan Square Neighborhood Association adopted the plan in April 2009 and has begun to implement its recommendation. As partners in the planning process, the City of Philadelphia should adopt the plan and its recommendations for preserving the quality of life in Logan Square.
Please Support LSNA / Parkway Plan
Dear Colleagues,
I request that the Philadelphia City Planning Commission approve the Logan Square Neighborhood/Parkway Plan. This Plan has been a major, intense, and productive effort by many in our association, neighborhood, Parkway “stakeholders” and the Plan’s consultants. It also reflects the great efforts and assistance by the staff and sponsorship of the Planning Commission itself.
The Plan is a uniquely valuable documentation of Logan Square’s variety of existing conditions, neighborhood and Parkway goals and needs, and the opportunities and challenges in meeting them. It can do much optimize Logan Square’s place in Philadelphia to the mutual benefit of neighbors, Parkway institutions and the City as a whole.
Furthermore, Plan’s process is an important prototype of how diverse stakeholders with often differing viewpoints and interests can work together to help shape a common vision for a neighborhood’s future, even when there is not total accord. This “agree to disagree” approach may be a valuable example for succeeding with planning in other challenging areas.
Again, I thank you and the Commission staff for the support and assistance already expended in the Plan’s development and look forward to working on implementing the plan in the coming months and years.
