People of Faith: Stand Up for Clean Air, Protect Life and Creation

Take a deep breath.

The air that you are breathing is truly the fundamental element for life on this planet. It sustains just about every living thing in the world, human and non-human. Preserving the air, preserving life, is a generational compact — the oxygen molecules we breathe today are the same ones breathed by our grandparents, and their grandparents. Our lungs are filled with the same air breathed by Jesus, the Buddha, Moses, and Mohammed. 

Every major religion has a mandate to care for Creation -- including the air we breathe. We were given natural resources to sustain us, but we were also given the responsibility to act as good stewards and preserve life for future generations.

But right now, Congress is relentlessly attacking the Clean Air Act by cutting the EPA's budget and trying to block its authority to protect us from harmful industrial pollution. As people of faith, we have the unique position of pointing out the moral responsibility to protect our air quality — and especially the health of children, seniors, and the most vulnerable among us. 

As people of faith, if we don’t speak up, others will try to speak for us, even attempting to put a faith mantle on the arguments of the polluting industry.

That is why Interfaith Power & Light is asking people of all faith traditions to urge President Obama's leadership on this issue. Stop Congress from blocking the EPA from doing its job, protecting the public from dangerous air pollutants.
