Massachusetts became the first state in the US to outlaw de-vocalizing of animals on July 21, 2010.  De-vocalization of animals is an exceptionally dangerous procedure commonly referred to as "De-barking."

In short, de-vocalizing an animal involves cutting its vocal chords thus silencing the barking or meowing.  Aside from causing significant trauma, scar tissue forms and often inhibiting the animal's ability to breathe resulting in suffocation and ultimately death.

In Massachusetts, the new law applies to cats and dogs, and violators may be fined or sentenced to prison for up to five years.

Please sign this petition urging your politician to work on legislation which would permanently outlaw this inhumane practice.

RE: Outlaw the De-Vocalization of Cats and Dogs

Greetings,

I urge you to work to outlaw this heinous practice of animal abuse.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

Yours sincerely,
