Why This Is Important

Afghanistan, graveyard of empires, has never had a successful democratic government.  US efforts to establish one using military force are likely to fail, based on a realistic assessment of what's going on there today; it's become the largest narco-state under our care.  But, there are ways of improving the situation there that could succeed at much lower cost in money and lives.  First, we must draw down American troops.  After that, we can turn to cooperative measures by the U.N. and other international coalitions.  Eight years on, it's time to pull the US military out of the graveyard, for both Afghanistan's and the US's own good.

Hi. Afghanistan, graveyard of empires, has never had a successful democratic government.
