The Texas Board of Education, dominated by creationists backed by the powerfully-funded Discovery Institute, is currently debating inserting anti-evolution, pro-Creationism language into it science standards.

If they succeed, the major textbook companies in the U.S. will almost certainly slant their science textbooks toward the Creationists in order to capture the Texas market - and all the other states will have to choose among these Texas-wooing texts.

Take action in a fun, media-savvy way by organizing Smart Mobs, in Howard Rheingold's happy term, to strike, peacefully and simultaneously, out of the blue to demand only 21st century science - yes, I mean evolution - be included in biology and other science textbooks.

Do it quickly, before Texas’ Creationist-dominated Board of Education votes next Spring to insert Creationism yet again into its science standards.  They happen at such places as the Texas capitol building, the lobbies of textbook publishers’ headquarters, science museums, the national capitol, and wherever else seems like a good idea. (Note: Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri and South Carolina are also targets of the Discovery Institute, so action in these states is especially vital to raise awareness.)
What's a "Smart Mob" and how do I organize one? Simple: follow the steps of the accompanying video.

Upload all photos of your event to Flickr, and all videos to Youtube, and tag them: ScienceSmartMob09.

When you've completed the action, drop a comment below describing the event, and let us know if you're open to interviews for feature articles, guest-blogger posts, etc.

Now go have fun doing good for science. We need it now more than ever.
