Now that the courts have recognized the unjustified harm DADT causes and declared it unconstitutional, it is time for Congress to act and remove this institutionalization of prejudice from the law.
DADT punishes gay people by making them hide the most important relationships in their lives. It writes prejudice and discrimination into the law, which stigmatizes and marginalizes all gay people by telling the world that punishment of gay people is both acceptable and necessary, just because they are gay. That stigmatization is the very one used to justify harm throughout the world, including torture, imprisonment, and death.
Prejudice and discrimination have no place in the law in a country dedicated to the proposition that all are created equal, and that equal rights are unalienable. The only purpose it serves is to perpetuate the illogical, irrational, scientifically unsupportable prejudice it was designed to indulge. Please join me in telling those we elected to represent us, including our president, to remove this harmful, unconstitutional law now.
Now is the time to repeal DADT.
Greetings,
Studies since 1957 have shown there is no harm to the military by allowing gay soldiers. Science has also shown that harm is caused to gay people and their families when they face discrimination and punishment. Now that the courts have also recognized the unjustified harm DADT causes and declared it unconstitutional, it is time for Congress to act and remove this institutionalization of prejudice from the law.
DADT punishes gay people by making them lie about the most important relationships in their lives. It enshrines prejudice and discrimination into the law, which stigmatizes and marginalizes all gay people by telling the world that punishment of gay people is both acceptable and necessary. It institutionalizes the prejudice used to justify legal, verbal, and physical, harm throughout the world, including torture, imprisonment, and death.
We have been trying to get our government to stop using the law to harm us our entire lives. Accept the judgement of the court and end this harmful, unconstitutional enshrinement of prejudice now.
