Lifetime Alimony is awarded as a standard divorce procedure when parties are married for 10 years or more (and sometimes less). The award is costly to attempt modification in the event of job loss, diminished income (such as a change of employment or retirement). If you fail in this attempt, you are now paying legal fees along with alimony which is likely already in arrears.
