Larry Summers is leaving the President's economic staff in December and returning to Harvard.  We need an economist in this vitally important role who puts science ahead of politics and everyday citizens ahead of Wall Street bankers and Corporate CEO's.  Paul Krugman has consistently nailed economic issues for years, consistently spoken truth to White House power, and consistently advocated for both more and smarter intervention to head off the most damaging effects of the financial collapse.

We need Paul Krugman to be heading up Obama Administration economic policy... even if he needs to be drafted into the position!

Paul Krugman for Director of National Economic Council

Greetings,

With Larry Summers announcing his return to academia, we ask that you name Paul Krugman to the post of Director of the National Economic Council.

While Mr. Krugman has at times been critical of administration policies, he has been proven right in almost every instance. He has been a consistent proponent of policies that support the middle class and every day citizens, while being realistic about our nation's economy, how we fit into the global economy, our need for a strong financial sector, etc.

Mr. Krugman has consistently articulated the dis-ingenuity and lies that lurk behind Republican economic and tax proposals as well as the damage done by the many political compromises that have been made to satisfy Republicans and conservative Democrats.

As a winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, author of hundreds of highly regarded economic papers and articles, Professor of Economics at Princeton and the London School of Economics, and one of the New York Times' most popular columnists, Mr. Krugman's credentials are impeccable.

Paul Krugman will be an extraordinarily controversial top economist for the very reason that he is not cowed by politics or intimidated by power. His ability to arrive at truth and explain it to ordinary Americans, his willingness to speak truth to power, and his balanced respect and disdain for the status quo are exactly what we need to repair the economic damage that has been done to our country and to restore confidence that our national economic decisions are being made based on science rather than short term or partisan political concerns.
