I am writing as a concerned citizen of the United States.  Human trafficking is one of the fastest illegal growing businesses in the world, surpassing drug trafficking in profits yet we fail to hear about it in the news and media. Commercial sex is much more prevalent and normalized in our society than we would like to admit. With the help of modern day technology and the Internet pimps have been able to use numerous websites to provide their services while remaining hidden behind a shield of anonymity that the Internet provides.  The largest source of prostitution in the country is actually provided by a website I am sure we all are familiar with, Craigslist.  Numerous agencies believe that Craigslist is now the largest source for prostitution and child exploitation in the country.   
Tom Dart, a Sheriff in Cook County Illinois has decided to stand up and fight against this awful atrocity against human nature.  On March 5, 2009 he filed a lawsuit against Craigslist, the complaint being that Craigslist facilitation of prostitution meets the definition of a public nuisance—a condition that injures the property, health and safety of many people.  
I am writing to ask for your support  and advocacy on this issue.  We need to end the normalization of the sex trade which results in the recruitment and exploitation of thousands of men and women each year.  I am asking you to help shift our cultural ideas and start having compassion for the victims involved and intolerance for the criminals involved. 
When government officials recognize and take action to support victims of human trafficking, and arrest traffickers, the risk increases and the trade itself becomes less profitable.  I am asking for you to help increase awareness on this growing issue, and to support the end to the erotica forum on Craigslist so we can start making changes.
