Dear Mr. President:

We Colorado Democrats worked hard for you in 2008. Many of us logged hundreds of volunteer hours and donated money we could ill afford to get you elected in our notoriously purple state. We have been patient, knowing that positive change usually comes in increments.

However, we are worried about missed opportunities to galvanize your base, so that you may be re-elected in 2012.

Those missed opportunities include not signing an executive order to authorize a DREAM Act program. We are worried that this will cause an erosion of bipartisan support, thereby affecting our efforts to re-elect you.

We have watched the right-wing assault on public education funding and their threats to the rights of all our children to receive a robust, well-rounded education from qualified, professional teachers.

We are still waiting for the full, speedy withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan.

We are anxious about attacks on the power of the EPA to protect our environment.

We wonder when those who make over $250,000 per year will share in our sacrifice, and we watch in despair while job after job is moved offshore ­ while our economy and our workforce suffers for it.

While we fully realize that changes you promised take time, we did not expect to witness a dismantling of the American dream. We are afraid that day is coming if you do not effect the positive changes you have promised; namely, your campaign¹s "change you can believe in."

Mr. President, we urge you to fulfill your commitment to America ‹ and to Colorado. Please stand strong for the middle class. Please take action to address our issues and to make the changes we can believe in.

We are Democrats who have voted and campaigned for you, and with this petition, we ask you to stand strong with us and by us. We refuse to be bullied by extreme right-wing ideologues, and we ask you to take this pledge to protect the American Dream with us.
