Move to Amend Initiative of Albuquerque, New Mexico

RESOLVED, the People of Albuquerque, New Mexico, stand with the Move to Amend campaign and communities across the country to defend democracy from the corrupting effects of undue corporate power by amending the United States Constitution to establish that:

   1. Only human beings, not corporations, are endowed with constitutional rights, and

   2. Money is not speech, and therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the People of Albuquerque, New Mexico, hereby instruct our state and federal representatives to enact resolutions and legislation to advance this effort.

This is a petition to show support from the people of Albuquerque, New Mexico for a referendum to add an amendment to the United States Constitution to state that only living humans will be categorized as "persons" with all the rights therein, and that money does not equal speech so that campaign finance may be regulated. This will insure our elections may not be influenced by multinational corporations that have no allegiance or vested interest in our country other than how much money they may acquire from her.
