Right now, Montana courts rank 43rd in the overall business environment, 44th in judge impartiality, and 45th in judge competence, and the Montana Law Review ranks our Supreme Court as the most activist in the country.  None of the sitting justices previously worked as a judge prior to being elected to the highest court in Montana.  Instead, many of Justices worked as partisan politicians, and were actively engaged in funding partisan political elections. We don’t need partisans on the Supreme Court; we need fair, impartial, and competent justices to help provide a stable business climate to encourage job creation.

By signing our petition, you’re asking all candidates for Montana’s Supreme Court and all sitting justices to sign this pledge:

I pledge not to engage in partisan activities while a candidate for or justice of the Montana Supreme Court, including the making of campaign contributions, speaking at partisan political events, or endorsing candidates for partisan office.
