Under a bill being considered in the Republican-dominated Minnesota House and Senate, would make it a gross misdemeanor (and a felony for a second offense) to photograph or videotape animal abuse in fanctory farms, puppy mills, or any other agricultural operation. The bill is being pushed by big agribusiness interests, who would rather hide their actions from the public eye instead of cleaning up their act. Respectable, humane farms (of which there are plenty of in Minnesota) have nothing to fear from undercover videos taken of their operations. This bill simply gives giant factory farms the go-ahead to commit all kinds of abuses with impunity: which is not only morally reprehensible, but also a violation of the First Amendment. Tell the Minnesota State Legislature that those who abuse animals are the ones that should be punished, not those who expose the cruelty.

Don't punish whistleblowers, punish animal abusers!

Greetings,

We, the undersigned, urge you not to pass the bills HF 1369 and SF 1118, which make it a crime to expose animal abuse at agricultural operations. It is a blatant attack on the First Amendment, and simply a way for Big Ag to hide their offenses from the public eye instead of cleaning up their act. Respectable, humane farms have nothing to fear from undercover videos taken of their operations.

Animal abusers are the ones who should be punished, not those who expose their cruelty.
