Save Goodwill Beacon Program at IS 141 in Astoria

Dear Mr. Bloomberg,

The undersigned believe that the Beacon programs have multiple purposes and provide tutoring, mentoring, and a safe haven for many. When children are provided with a positive environment it greatly contributes to their successful social-emotional growth. The educational programs offered, as well as the intstumental instruction and the other music and art activities, enhance cognitive functioning and in turn improve their academic achievement. If the doors are closed to these programs we will have a community consisting of latchkey children and unsupervised young adults. We urge that you please reconsider the decision to shut down such vital programs.
