Mar 14, 2012
In January 2012, Dario Yachachin was arrested after neighbors videotaped him kicking, hitting, dragging and flinging baby lambs into the air. Yachachin worked as a sheep herder on the farm. When the animal advocates of Hand4Paws heard of this disturbing incident, a petition was started on Change.org. Over 2,100 people spoke out against animal abuse and added their signatures to the petition asking that Yachachin receive the maximum sentence for his acts of cruelty. Yachachin pleaded guilty to three counts of animal cruelty and on March 14, 2012, he was sentenced to three years, four months in prison.
Kings County, California - Dario Yachachin was spotted and videotaped by nearby neighbors kicking, dragging and flinging lambs into the air. Yachachin was booked into the Kings County Jail, and is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail. Kings County animal services helped deputies contact the owner of the sheep, and even removed several dead and injured sheep from the field. The owner of the sheep denies that the training that was given to Yachachin involved any of the things that he was doing while being videotaped.
