Under the law, animals are considered property - like a piece of furniture or a car. What needs to be changed is how PETS/ANIMALS are classified. Animals should not be considered property under the law because unlike inanimate objects, they are sentient beings with their own lives and interests who can suffer and feel pain.

As long as they are considered property, then evil abusers will only get a slap on the hand rather than a REAL SENTENCE. Animal abuse should be a FELONY across the nation - not debatable - punished to the fullest extent of the law! By that we mean across the nation with the same punishments and sentences. Not those 6 months to 2 year sentences either.

These are living creatures that can't speak for themselves and it is up to us, their rescuers and true owners to keep them safe. If convicted, an abuser should be immediately tagged as not fit to adopt or own an animal or live in a house where there is one.  They need to be stopped NOW.
