December 21, 2010, the Los Angeles Sheriff s department (Compton Division) illegally detained Brandon Smith, Joseph Adams, and Gregory Washington. These three citizens have been falsely convicted of an alleged robbery, and have been detained in the North County Correctional Facility for the past eleven months based on insufficient evidence and less than credible witnesses. It is our belief that the misconduct of the Los Angeles Sheriff s department (Compton Division) led to this unfair conviction. The Los Angeles Sheriffs department is guilty of detaining these individuals without probable cause, falsifying police documentation, destroying and manufacturing false evidence to ensure a conviction, along with countless other levels of misconduct demonstrated throughout this case. Police reports, witness statements, victim testimony, and the evidence presented amount to little more than opportunistic witnesses and racial profiling. Shifting accounts and mystery victims illuminate the inaccuracies of the Los Angeles Sheriff s department (Compton Division) and threaten to imprison these men for life. Pressing for a fair and accurate trial, we maintain that police reports alone prove that the Los Angeles Sheriff s Department is guilty of tainting the victim’s testimony and illegally detaining and prosecuting these young men.
Police misconduct maintains to be a crucial difficulty in America today. Historically, reorganization attempts to reform this issue has failed due to society resistance to change. Past attempts were aimed at single occurrences, and paid no attention to the imminent fundamental issues at hand. Advancing the community’s awareness was the objective of past developments, rather than improving the justice systems reliability.
Amendments should be directed at improving law enforcement’s managerial culture. These modifications will develop bureau philosophy’s, permitting moral conduct to prosper. Advancing this organizational culture will encourage law enforcement to comport in a manner consistent with the superior expectation and dependence we anticipate within this profession. Justice has been defined as, Fairness, integrity, honesty and loyalty and should all be included into the executive process of law enforcement leaders.
