Hemp is an extremely important plant for our future. It can reduce deforestation, replace plastics, and even be used as fuel. Founding fathers knew the power of hemp and even our Declaration of Independence was drafted on hemp paper. If you are thinking that hemp is just another word for weed you are wrong. Hemp contains extremely trace amounts of THC and people cannot get high off of it. Hemp is one of the many keys to reversing the damage we have inflicted on our environment. A hemp plant can mature in 100 days and be harvested for paper production unlike the years it takes trees to grow. It also requires little land and no pesticides and other chemicals to grow. America forbids us to grow industrial hemp under Federal Law but America is also the biggest importer of hemp products in the world. If you do not really care about environmental causes then think of the money and new businesses that will be generated if we lift the Federal ban on industrial hemp. Hemp has the potential to help save our environment and strengthen the economy. Please tell everyone you know about this petition because every person who signs it is actually sending a letter about the issue of the ban on hemp to the president and the senators who represent them.
Every signature really does help the cause and I encourage you all to take action yourselves in whatever ways you can think of.
Thank you for your support!
Lift the Ban on Industrial Hemp
Greetings,
I am writing you today on the subject of the ban on industrial hemp here in America. As you most likely know, industrial hemp has the potential to reverse global warming as well as the potential to generate more businesses here in America. Hemp is not marijuana and therefore does not have the dangerous effects of that drug and should not be grouped with it. Hemp is a far better choice for paper because it produces more pulp and needs less chemicals to produce the paper than trees do. It also takes about 100 days for a hemp plant to mature unlike the time and space it takes a tree. The use of hemp in paper making would not only reduce deforestation but also the amount of chemicals used which eventually enter our environment. Hemp can also reduce our dependency on oil which is a problem not only because it pollutes our environment but also because it makes us less self sufficient. This is a particularly a big issue for us right now in light of the BP disaster. We need to take this tragedy and learn from it by investing in better renewable energy. Hemp is great for this because of the reasons i stated for paper and also because it is carbon dioxide neutral meaning it will not contribute to green house gases.
If we were to lift the ban on industrial hemp here in America the effects could be far reaching for our environment and our economy. I have heard that one way to help lift this ban would be for you to become a co-sponsor of H.R 1866, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009. If you are already a supporter then I wholeheartedly thank you for your support and encourage you to introduce a Senate version of the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2009 . Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.
Sincerely,
