"I'm illiterate...I don't want my children to live like me. I want them to have a good education."

In Ethiopia, like other developing countries education is restricted to families that can afford the cost of uniforms, school materials and books. This video highlights one family's struggle to educate their children due to economic deprivation.

Hiwot (Life) Campaign Benefits:

Through Project FACE, the Hiwot (Life) Campaign could potentially provide additional benefits in other areas, such as:

Poverty Relief:
Provides direct financial assistance to families, as a result they are better equipped to confront the immediate impact of poverty-the inability to secure basic necessities such as food, shelter, clothing and medicine.
Empowerment of Women:
Empowers women by affording them direct access to the family's income.
Education:
Stimulate families/caregivers to participation in the education of their children.
Child Protection:
Serves as a conduit for children to leave the streets, thus assisting in the global initiative to eliminate child labor.
Health Care:
Reduces the violent incidents and health problems associated with child labor.
Increased future earning potential:
Studies indicate that future earning potential and standard of living increases as educational attainment increases.
Economic Security:
Provides families with a consistent source of income as opposed to the uncertain earnings associated with child labor.

Join ALIF's effort to break the generational cycle of poverty that gives rise to child labor, commercial sex work and exploitation!
