"It's Week 9 of the Letter Writing Campaign. This week we take our inspiration from two long-time O4I members, Mel & Geert, who have been in this struggle for equal immigration rights for many years.
On the back of Sen. Dianne Feinstein's (D-CA) emergency bill filed on behalf of the Tan-Mercado family last week, let's make a concerned effort to let Sen. Feinstein know how badly more than 36,000 additional same-sex binational couples need her support. The draft letter and addresses and phone numbers are below."
And – a reminder from Mel & Geert, who have been doing this a long time, "The most effective communication is either snail-mailed hand-written postcards or hand-written letters faxed to her office."
Thanks,
From: Out4Immigration.

Thank you for Having Sponsored Individual Relief Bill S.867 on Behalf of Shirley Tan and Jay Mercado
Dear Representative
Dear Senator Feinstein,
I am writing to thank you for having sponsored Individual Relief Bill S.867 on behalf of Shirley Tan and Jay Mercado. Your action is evident of the fact that you recognize that this same-sex binational couple lacks equal protection under the law and thus needs legislative help.
There are many couples in similar situations, and writing Individual Relief Bills on their behalf is greatly and thankfully appreciated. However, supporting S.424, the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA), would be much more efficient, as it would provide equal rights to gay and lesbian American citizens who are being discriminated against by federal law.
Please add your name as a co-sponsor to the UAFA. And, please, be sure that same-sex binational couples are included in any discussions you may have with your colleagues in the coming months about Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
