In the spring of 2009, President Obama directed all of his agency heads to extend to the same-sex domestic partners of their employees all benefits enjoyed by those in traditional marriages, where legally possible. Whereas the departments of State and Justice, as well as the VA, took decisive action, leadership within the Department of Defense continues to remain unresponsive to the President's directives and unresponsive to its LGBT employees. Two and a half years of foot-dragging is long enough. It is time for the Department of Defense to take action and comply.
