Lake County Prosecutors, Indiana Courts: Hold all who knew of Christian's abuse accountable.

13 year old Christian Choate was severely abused, kept in a dog cage, and finally killed (allegedly) by his father and step-mother. Yet, there were many people -- including family members and even an attending physician -- who knew about the abuse and did not report it to authorities.  

There is currently a law in Indiana that requires individuals who are aware of (or suspect) abuse to report the abuse -- the trouble is that many times it is not enforced -- especially towards doctors who, often times, are the first ones to see it. This doctor needs to be prosecuted. I am starting this petition to hold ALL of those (not just friends, family, and teachers) who knew that Christian was being abused accountable for their inaction.

I'd like to add that some may think, and have actually called, this petition a "witch hunt." I fully encourage people to think for themselves. However, please know that my aim is pure, not malicious. This is simply a call to prosecutors and lawmakers to enforce a law that is already supposed to be in affect -- to show support for such an important piece of legislation. Really, what good is a law if it is not enforced? Please note that whether or not any of these people are legally charged with a crime is obviously up to those investigating the case.

One form of abuse is physical action, another is blatant inaction. Christian's abuse and eventual death most certainly could have been prevented had people followed Indiana State Law. Let's encourage prosecutors to enforce the law and hold these people accountable for not acting on Christian's behalf.

Who knows? Maybe this petition will make a difference between life and death for another child. Christian had no voice. Be his voice, take good action and sign this petition so that justice is served to honor the memory of a defenseless child.
