Out-of-service Metro buses are currently using Barranca Street as their route to return to the city's bus parking lot located on Ave 21 just North of Pasadena Ave. Those of you who live on Barranca street don't need to be told how unbelievably loud and disturbing these buses are. At it's worst, 10 - 15 buses blow through at 7pm every evening on their way back to the parking lot. It is truly deafeningly -- as loud as standing next to the runway at LAX (no exaggeration) and the bus exhaust drifts directly into our windows.
It is understandable why Barranca street would have been used in the past as a short cut to the lot, especially since the most direct way, via Ave. 21 from Pasadena, is unfortunately a one-way intersection due to the I-5 off-ramp. But if the city is going to promote mixed-use zoning in this neighborhood and increase residential density, we hope they will be more sensitive to quality-of-life issues such as this, and we need to inform them quickly and immediately so they can address the problem.
Please take a moment to sign this petition. We need to show the city that this is a major concern for Alta residents - not only those on the Barranca side, but everyone as noise and air pollution drastically decreases liveability and property values.
Stop out-of-service bus route on Barranca/ Humboldt Streets.
Greetings,
I just signed the following petition addressed to: LA City Planning Commission/ Metro / DOT.
