Kentucky Citizens,

Kentucky presently does not include sexual orientation or gender identity in the Kentucky Civil Rights Act. Governor Beshear created an executive order protecting state employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, but the rest of the state's citizens needs protection through legislative process. Please consider signing the following petition in order to explain the need for this protection to the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights, Governor Beshear, and your state representatives. Incidently, the Commission is having the first ever state-wide hearing on these protection issues June 17, 2009 in Richmond, KY at city hall. The time to make a change is now!

Dear Members of the Kentucky Commission for Human Rights and State Officials,

Dear Representative

Like you, I care deeply for the well-being of Kentucky's residents. As someone who advocates for Kentuckians, I request that you articulate to the Commonwealth's decision makers the need for sexual orientation and gender identity protections within the Kentucky Civil Rights Act. In order for the state to better show how it cares for all Kentucky residents, this important step must take place. Promoting such an inclusive approach to human rights resonates well with our ideals in democracy since we waive high the banner of personal liberties. Certainly Governor Beshear made a great stride in creating executive order 2008-473, which provides for protection of state employees from discrimination based upon sexual orientation and gender identity; the same right, however, ought to be extended to all Kentucky citizens. Thank you for all you do to secure and protect the rights of Kentuckians.</p>
