Hungry children need access to nutritious food to grow strong and learn well. Every day families in our community utilize federal nutritional programs for their children, including school meals, the Summer Food Service Program, and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC).

Every 5 years the United States Congress reviews the programs through the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act, which provides funding and policy to ensure these programs continue to serve millions of children each day. The current Act expired at the end of September, and now lawmakers are releasing bills to improve these critical programs by making them healthier, easy to administrate, and available for more hungry children.

Now is the time to let your lawmaker know that these programs are vital for ensuring that children have access to adequate, nutritious meals. Sign our petition to let your lawmaker know that improving these programs is necessary for the health and success of all children. Also, please take a moment to edit the letter and add in why child nutrition is important to you. The more personal the letter is, the more impact it will have on your legislators.

Thank you for supporting Food Lifeline’s campaign to improve federal child nutrition programs. Food Lifeline’s mission is to end hunger in Western Washington by engaging communities and mobilizing resources. For more information, visit our website.

Child Nutrition Reauthorization

Dear Member of Congress,

I believe that every child should have access to adequate, nutritious meals.

Please help make this a reality by supporting a Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill that will improve the quality of meals for children, increase program access so more children can participate, and finally, make programs easier for communities to offer.

By improving funding for these programs and streamlining the process, more children can receive the nourishment they need to succeed. Please work toward $10 billion in new funding for these essential child nutrition programs.

Thank you for your support on this important issue.

Sincerely,

[Your name]
