Immigration ! Say NO to the politics of division and YES to bringing America together.

The Issue

Real people living in neighborhoods and communities across America are making the point that American politics need to change. Americans want to talk about values. We want to talk about finding solutions to the issues facing our nation. But in the current political debate, too many politicians and commentators are poisoning the movement for change, and they're doing it by attacking immigrants. I lost my job 4 months ago and I didn’t loose my job to an illegal immigrant. I lost my job to some guy in India who is doing it for almost nothing at all. I hear to much complaining about all the illegal immigrants that come to this country and take our jobs, but honestly the kind of jobs that they do, most of us Americans don’t want to do.  The jobs they do don’t provide them with benefits and a retirement plan. The jobs they do pay minimum wage.  So no Sir, no immigrant took my job. My job was sent overseas. A big corporation did that, right after you bailed them out. They fired about 300 employees from the Kansas City office. All those jobs went to India, but we could still fix this. We could build America together.

I pledge that...
"We Must Build America Together"

Our politics and policies must reflect our core values as a nation by

Promoting basic democratic principles
Recognizing the contributions of all communities
Rejecting the exploitation of workers
Hold politicians accountable for real solutions to the issues facing our nation.

As a nation, we are facing a clear choice about what side of history we will be on. Will we allow intolerance, demagoguery, and xenophobia to define our generation, or will we take a stand for an America that recognizes the contributions of all communities and transforms diversity into shared purpose and prosperity?

It is time to build America together. It is time to stand up to the politicians and commentators who are fanning the flames of insecurity and prejudice in ways that contribute to racial and ethnic hostility. It is time to stand in unity on a debate that threatens to divide Americans on other critical issues facing our nation, such as worker justice, health care, education, civil liberties and the environment.

America needs real solutions to our broken immigration system, including a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, family unity, worker protections, and strengthened human rights and civil liberties for all Americans.

It is time we say NO to the politics of division and YES to bringing America together.

Keep Families united and decrease the waiting time for family re-unification. We care about immigrants because we were immigrants and we are immigrants. Reform cannot wait another year. Please make sure the 111th Congress enacts immigration reform based on the tenets of family unity, justice and humane treatment of all persons.

Some people make this problem look bigger than what it really is.  You have all these people running around with no visas, well give them some. Problem Solved.

Rodolfo IbarraPetition StarterWhen we went to the voting precincts in November, 2008, we sent our message to each and every one of our elected officials that we want change we can believe in. Here we are in October, 2009 and there is no consensus on health care reform and the lies, bickering and delays continue. We are spending $2.7 Billion a day on war that we should not be fighting. All we are doing is creating more enemies for America, and there are far too many Americans who are currently unemployed. I am here to illustrate my disappointment and frustration with the political process and the politicians currently in office. I have been talking with a lot of Americans these last couple of days. We need to let elected officials know that we intend to throw out each and every one of them during the next election cycle unless they turn this country around.
