Signers of this petition are calling on US Senators and Representatives who think a public option is such a bad idea to pledge to reject their Government-run health-care coverage. If the American people can't have a public option, why should they?
If I Can't Have a Public Option, Neither Should You
Dear Decision Maker
Senators and Representatives who oppose a government-run health-care option are the worst kind of hypocrites. They are denying the American people the kind of coverage that they themselves enjoy through their government-run health insurance plan.
Those who believe a public option is such a bad idea for the rest of us should put their money where their mouths are. That's why I signed a petition calling on you and others opposed to the public option to have the courage of your convictions and reject the coverage that comes with your jobs. We're calling on you to demonstrate your willingness to go out into the wonderful free market (which has failed to innovate a way to cover 46 million Americans) and take your chances with private insurers. I sure hope you don't have any pre-existing conditions!
Opposition to the public option isn't based on anything other than a cynical desire to see President Obama fail. A majority of the American people support a public option. It's time for you to get on board.
If government-run health care is so bad, publicly pledge your willingness to reject it. If government-run health care is wrong for the rest of us, how can it be right for you? Please stop putting politics and insurance company profits ahead of people and their needs. I want a public option like the one you have. And if you don't want me to have one, then neither should you.
