Please Urge Your Members to Join the Cage-Free Egg Movement
Greetings,
Recently, several hospitals have joined the United States Humane Society's No Battery Eggs campaign, and I am writing to ask you to urge your thousands of members to join as well. As an influential organization in the health field, you could be instrumental in convincing hospitals and other health care providers to choose healthier, more ethical, and more environmentally friendly foods for their patients.
More than 280 million hens are forced to live out their lives in tiny battery cages across the country. These cages are so small (about the size of a piece of office paper) that hens can't even flap their wings. The cages are stacked on top of one another and the close proximity encourages the spread of bacteria and disease. Many recent studies link factory farmed eggs with the spread of salmonella.
For health reasons alone, hospitals should stop using factory farmed eggs produced in battery cages. Please urge the hospitals and health care providers that are members of your organization to use cage-free eggs.
Thank you,
