Why This Is Important

Millions of loyal, hardworking Americans, middle class, baby boomers, seniors and vets deserve homes not homelessness... yet in their golden years are sleeping in cars, RV's, vans, in weekly motels, and after serving in horrendous wars, vets are sleeping on the streets of our nation. These fine men and women deserve HOMES, food, and medical care NOW. Dignity for ALL members of our society. What kind of nation have we become?  The greedy rich elite have 2nd, 3rd, 4th homes, while the rest of us suffer?  Enough is enough !!!  It is time for Americans to wake up, band together and speak up for seniors and vets.

End Homelessness for Seniors and Vets

Dear Representative

There are now more homeless seniors than ever before. In the last five years, some studies show their numbers have increased by over 200 percent. Military spending is at an all time high and the middle class, seniors, vets are becoming homeless, living in cars RV's, weekly motels or on the streets.

A growing number of homeless senior citizens live in cities such as LA, Seattle and Santa Barbara, many of the elderly are resorting to living in their cars.

Baby boomers represent one of the fastest-growing groups of homeless people in Los Angeles County, but there are only a few programs to serve them. The population of older Americans will likely surge over the next 15 years, which means the number of homeless seniors will also rise. Approximately 28 percent of the homeless seniors reported prior military service, which is twice as high as the general homeless population. Is this how we thank and show our appreciation to vets by abandoning them and leaving them homeless?

A terrible trend in cities around the country over the past twenty-five years has been the enforcement of unfair criminal laws against homeless people. This trend targets homeless people by making it illegal to perform daily routine tasks like sitting, eating and sleeping. Those things plus begging in public places have resulted in criminal penalties in violation of the enforced laws. City, County, State, and Federal Government agencies must change their prejudices and policies regarding homelessness in America.

Every city and state in America needs to provide for its citizens. This includes seniors and vets who need affordable housing, jobs, and food, basic human rights.

Personally, am a 60 year old woman who has worked 4-6 jobs at a time for 45 + years all my life. Am now living in my car with my dog in a parking lot because I cannot find a job, I am a professional, with a BA degree. My parents survived the Great Depression unscathed but my parens and relatives (mostly) are dead and gone and here I am. This is a travesty for millions of senior Americans and vets.

Stop wasting billions on millionaires and billionaires and spend money on US citizens !!!
