Urge our elected officials in Asheville to stop allowing discrimination to take place against its homeless community who are in crisis.
Non Discrimination
Dear Mayor Bellamy
I am writing you today because of a travesty of justice within your city. Homeless people are treated unfairly in every aspect of their daily lives. Homeless women who have been victims of domestic violence are discriminated against and not informed of their rights as victims. Homeless children are not receiving adequate nutrition and are failing in public schools.
The city of Asheville is also failing. It is failing to protect all of its citizens. In reviewing the protections you provide for city employees, I have learned that you have extended more protections for city employees than you have for your citizens.
I am encouraging you to protect all of your citizens equally and asking that you amend your current non discrimination policy to include even the most disenfranchised minorities.
More than rhetoric or more hate, Asheville, North Carolina needs a Leader who represents the entire city of Asheville.
It is only when discrimination ceases to exist can we begin comprehensively addressing this issue.
