In early May, a cat escaped from his cage at Dallas Animal Services and became trapped in a wall. Although the shelter manager was repeatedly made aware of the cat and said he'd take care of it, he did nothing and allowed the cat to die. Over 700 Change.org community members demanded that he be held accountable for this cruelty.
The DAS manager has now been charged with felony animal cruelty. You can read the full story and see an affadavit with more details on the case here on the Animals blog.
Dallas Animal Services is being investigated for the death of a cat in the shelter's walls. After escaping from his cage, the cat ended up trapped in the wall. Sources say that employees heard the cat trying to escape and reported it to management, yet the cat wasn't removed until after he had died and his carcass started to smell.
This is not the first time that Dallas Animal Services has made questionable decisions when it comes to animals in their care.
Jonnie England, a member of the Dallas Animal Shelter Commission, said "If these allegations are true, these are the people who are charged with protecting and caring for animals in the city of Dallas. This is a level of callousness and unconcern and incompetence that is just stunning."
Tell the Chairman of the Animal Services Commission to hold any shelter managers who knew about the suffering cat fully responsible for their negligence and to replace them with compassionate leaders.

Hold Shelter Managers Accountable for Death of Cat at Dallas Animal Services
Greetings,
I recently learned via Change.org of the cat who died while trapped in the walls at Dallas Animal Services. Sources say that employees could hear the cat struggling for days and management was aware of it, but it was only removed after it had died and the carcass started to smell. If the cat's body could be removed after it was dead, it could have been saved while still alive.
To allow an animal to suffer like that is unconscionable, especially at an animal shelter. I urge the Dallas Animal Shelter Commission to hold any managers who knew about the cat fully accountable for their negligent cruelty. Any staff who allowed the cat to suffer should be dismissed and replaced with compassionate leaders who can provide your community's animals with the shelter and safety they deserve.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
