Make Kendra's Law Permanent: Co-sponsor A10421/S7596

To my Albany Representive:

As a constituent of yours, I want to thank you for all you've done to help people with serious mental illness.

As someone who cares about the seriously mentally, public safety, and saving money, I urge you to Co-sponsor and support A10421/S7596: a bill to make Kendra's Law Permanent and enhance it. Research shows the law accomplishes three objectives:

• Helps the mentally ill by reducing homelessness (74%); suicide attempts (55%); and substance abuse (48%);
• Keeps the public safer by reducing physical harm to others (47%) and property destruction (43%).
• Saves money by reducing hospitalization (77%); arrests (83%); and incarceration (87%).
• Results in beneficial structural changes to local mental health service delivery including enhanced accountability and improved access to services; improved treatment plan development, discharge planning, and coordination of services.

OMH has used 'cost' as a reason not to make permanent. But their bill costs no less than these bills over the next five years. Please make Kendra's Law Permanent.

Thank you very much
