Over a period of seven months, on 30 different farms across Finland, Animal Defenders International documented the true cost of fur harvesting. Among their findings:

- animals with untreated infections and diseases that were clearly visible on their noses, teeth, and eyes;

- foxes with visible mouth sores that sometimes covered the animals' teeth;

- open sores and tail loss as a result of cannibalism;

- broken and malformed limbs;

- dirty, empty, and broken water bowls;

- animals circling cages and showing signs of severe psychological stress; and

- broken cages with sharp wires that were likely to cause injury to animals.

Honorable Officials,

Like millions worldwide, I care deeply about the rights and welfare of all sentient beings. I am appalled by the recent footage obtained by Animal Defenders International at 30 different Finnish fur farms.

Helpless animals, confined to small, desolate cages, show obvious signs of severe distress as imprisonment slowly drives them insane. Animals also suffer grotesque injuries caused by both self-harming (as a result of confinement psychosis) and run-down, dangerous cages.

The Finnish government must stop defending the fur farm trade – an industry which brings deep shame to the nation – and join other European countries that have already banned fur farming. Please outlaw these terrible concentration camps at once.
