How We Won

May 26, 2011

Florida had been one of the few states where bestiality was still legal. Although bills had been introduced over the past several years to outlaw sex with animals, they weren't passed because legislators weren't comfortable debating the topic. As Rep. Jim Waldman (D-Coconut Creek) said, "They just don't like to discuss sex and animals."

But this year, nearly 3,500 Change.org community members signed the petition urging Florida legislators not to allow bestiality to remain legal any longer. Thanks to public pressure and increased media coverage, the bestiality ban was finally signed into law.

Unbelievably, bestiality is still legal in Florida. Numerous states -- including Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Alaska, South Dakota, and Washington -- have passed laws prohibiting this exploitive and abusive practice.

Florida SB 344/HB 125, filed by Senator Nan Rich and Rep. Marty Kiar, would outlaw sexual conduct or sexual contact with animals. Anyone violating this law would be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Please sign the petition and ask Florida state legislators to outlaw bestiality.

Please Support HB 125/ SB 344 to Outlaw Bestiality in the Sunshine State

Greetings,

I am asking that you support HB 125/ SB 344 to outlaw bestiality in Florida.

This important humane legislation would make sexual conduct or sexual contact with an animal a misdemeanor.

In the last ten years, numerous states -- including Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Alaska, and Washington -- have passed similar legislation. Florida is one of the few states where this abhorrent practice is still legal.

Please co-sponsor and support this humane measure.

Thank you for your consideration.
