CARE first invented the CARE Package in 1946 to deliver food and urgently-needed humanitarian aid after WWII. Sixty-five years later, CARE is bringing back the CARE Package to help women create lasting change in their communities. Together, we can help poor women and girls to:

-- Live. Maternal mortality is nothing short of an epidemic. Worldwide, hundreds of thousands of women die from complications during pregnancy or childbirth each year – that's one woman dying nearly every minute of every day – and millions more are left with life-altering disabilities. In some countries, one in seven women dies in pregnancy or childbirth. 

-- Learn. The promise of education is more than just reading and arithmetic. When fully realized, that promise includes learning how to get along with others, coping with setbacks, and discovering strengths. Quality schools are incubators for healthy societies around the world. At least 75 million children who should be in primary school are not, and at least 55 percent of those – nearly 41 million children – are girls. 

-- Earn. Hundreds of millions of people struggle to support their families on less than $2 a day. They simply do not earn enough to meet their needs. Though the problem may be stated simply, the solution isn't a quick fix. Women need resources to create earning opportunities for themselves and their families.
