Brazil’s animals are in very serious, very immediate danger. The only nationwide law criminalizing animal cruelty is under threat, affecting all pets and farm animals. Please help ensure that it is not overturned!

Please OPPOSE Bill 4548/98

Honorable Officials,

I write with grave concern regarding Bill 4548/98 - currently before the Brazilian House of Representatives - which would, if passed, decriminalize cruelty and brutality toward animals.

Should this bill pass, Brazil will have no nationwide penalties for animal abuse - meaning that cruelty to dogs, cats, horses and many other species will have no consequences. Compassionate citizens who report a dog being beaten or a horse being starved will see little or no action taken. Such acts of torture will no longer be criminal offenses throughout Brazil.

With this letter, I respectfully urge you to do everything in your power to halt the passage of Bill 4548/98. If anything, Brazil's animal protection laws should be upheld and strengthened. Please do all you can to work toward that end.

Thank you kindly for your attention and consideration,
