Help California Brown Pelicans!

This is a new petition on behalf of the Brown Pelican, focusing on its California population.

"In December 2005, the Endangered Species Recovery Council, a small nonprofit working to recover endangered species, petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for delisting. Craig S. Harrison, with the Washington, D.C.—based law firm  of Hunton & Williams, filed the petition. The firm's client list includes electric utilities and coal, chemical, oil, and gas companies."(http://baynature.org/articles/oct-dec-2006/ear-to-the-ground/delisting-of-the-brown-pelican)                                                                                                                                          The California Brown Pelicans were delisted as endangered species in November 2009.

Environmentalist organizations - like International Bird Rescue Research Center - were against delisting because pelicans were not "out of the woods yet. "
"We at IBRRC are delighted that their numbers have rebounded and their appearance along our coast is once again a common occurrence. However, we remain apposed to this delisting as the California Brown Pelican. As an indicator species, this pelican is still highly vulnerable to oil spills, domoic acid events, exposure to botulism at the Salton Sea and the constant pollution that they encounter on a daily basis"...

"We believe that it was premature to delist this species until their population has time to mature as a population and fully reestablish itself fully within its range."

Please, tell  California Department of Fish and Game to re-list the Brown Pelican in as an endangered species!

P.S. While we believe that national re-listing of the Brown Pelican as an endangered species is the best course of action, preservation at the state level (in this case California) is well advised.
