Hello Fellow Neighbors,
In an effort to beautify our community, I have been working along side the Downtown Alliance to make Edgar Plaza and the future Greenwich Green Park a reality. I ask for a moment of your time and assistance in this undertaking. This will be an amazing accomplishment for the neighborhood, so the more support, the better!
GREENWICH GREEN SOUTH - Edgar Plaza
Greetings, Commissioner Benepe, Mayor Bloomberg, Madam Chair Burden, Councilmember Chin, Madam Chair
As a resident of Greenwich South, I am writing because there is no park in my neighborhood. But there could be, if the Edgar Plaza and Trinity Plaza traffic islands were redesigned as places that my neighbors and I could and would actually want to use.
I have owned an apartment on Greenwich Street for 3 years, and there are 6,000 other people who live within four blocks. We are pioneers, the first to discover the potential of this area, hidden below the World Trade Center, just west of the Financial District. But it isn’t easy. We have few of the stores, restaurants and other amenities that give the rest of Lower Manhattan so much buzz. And, we don’t have a park, a community open space where the people who live and work here can take a break, get together, see outdoor performances and enjoy a little bit of nature. There is a new school in Battery Park City, and every day hundreds of little kids and their parents walk through our area on their way to and from the school, but they never stop. A new Edgar Plaza would change that.
The Downtown Alliance has a plan to make Edgar Plaza a real park right now. I think it’s a great idea, and so do many of my neighbors, local businesses and cultural groups. Community Board 1 has supported it, too.
As a real estate professional, I have no doubt that a park would add value to the surrounding commercial and residential properties. I urge you to do everything you can to make Edgar Plaza and Trinity Plaza real parks so that we can make Greenwich South a real neighborhood. Please see the attached page with support from area residents.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
