The Everglades nourish wildlife and plants native only to Florida. There are over two dozen protected species that call it home. This fragile eco-system provides a major source of recharge to aquifers that serve millions of Floridians. The vast wetlands also bring millions of dollars in recreation and tourism to the State of Florida.

Yet, the magnificent Everglades have been diminishing. Over 50% of the area has been drained and developed since the late 19th century.

Now they are facing another threat. Oil drilling. Florida Governor, Rick Scott, has stated that he supports the expansion of drilling for oil in the Everglades. That's right... Expansion. There is already drilling taking place even though the impacts to the ecosystem are unknown. Five new wells have quietly been drilled since 2010. There are 17 active wells that span from Fort Meyers to Collier county, and some would like to see more added.

We need to let Rick Scott know that further expansion will not be tolerated. We need to protect our home, take a stand, and let our voices be heard!

Stop further expansion of oil drilling in the Florida Everglades

Greetings,

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Governor Rick Scott.

----------------
Stop further expansion of oil drilling in the Florida Everglades

The Everglades are home to wildlife and plants native only to Florida.

For these reasons I vehemently oppose any more oil wells being drilled. We must protect The Florida Everglades.
