Get Dirty Coal Pollution Out of the Grand Canyon

Docket # EPA-R09-OAR-2009-0598: Comments on Cleaning Up Navajo and Four Corners Coal Plants

Dear Ms. Anita Lee

I respectfully request that the Environmental Protection Agency implement the most stringent air pollution controls available on the Four Corners Power Plant and the Navajo Generating Station to improve visibility in our national parks and wilderness areas and to protect human health.

We need a commitment to building a long term 21st century renewable energy infrastructure that sustains the region's long-term economic future without the environmental harm and health risks of coal.

These dirty coal plants are responsible for decades of pollution in what was once one of America's most pristine landscapes. Now the region is threatened by unhealthy levels of ozone pollution and unsightly haze. It's time for the EPA to reverse this trend and protect the land and people.

I am deeply concerned about the toxic legacy of dirty coal in the Southwest. I urge the EPA to take the strong actions necessary to clean up the region's air and start the transition to a clean energy future that brings good jobs to the region.
