Dear friends, Lucy is an innocent elephant who's lived her entire life in prison. Currently she is confined - alone - at Edmonton Valley Zoo, in a climate totally unsuitable for elephants. Please ask Edmonton officials to grant Lucy her freedom and a peaceful retirement. For additional information, please visit:

Honourable Ladies and Gentlemen,
I write with grave concern regarding Lucy, the solitary elephant at the Valley Zoo. Lucy is the most northerly elephant in the world, confined to an inappropriate climate and forced to remain indoors for a significant portion of the year.
Elephants are highly social animals who should never be held in solitary confinement. For this reason, Canadian and international zoo guidelines specify that elephants be housed in social groups. Yet Lucy remains alone in her enclosure, robbed of conspecific interaction and any opportunity to express her natural behaviour.
Lucy has been imprisoned for nearly 35 years. She suffers a multitude of dire health conditions, most - if not all - of which stem from her lifelong captivity. I respectfully submit that she deserves a peaceful retirement in an accredited sanctuary. Please do all you can to ensure that she is granted her freedom.
Thank you,
