Although the U.S. government lists the beautiful and elusive lynx as "threatened" in neighboring Colorado as well as 13 other states, they enjoy no federal protection in New Mexico. In fact, last year, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar refused to extend protection to the lynx, stating that he had "higher priorities." Any lynx who happens to wander across an imaginary border - from Colorado to New Mexico - is at instant risk for legal slaughter.
Please sign below to ask Secretary Salazar to include New Mexico in his list of lynx-friendly states. For more information, please visit:

Attention: Secretary Ken Salazar
Dear Secretary Salazar,
Although the U.S. government lists the beautiful and elusive lynx as "threatened" in neighboring Colorado as well as 13 other states, they enjoy no federal protection in New Mexico. I am deeply disappointed to learn that you have refused to include New Mexico among those states in which the lynx would be safeguarded.
As you know, lynx consistently roam into New Mexico. In fact, the number of cats entering the state has increased since reintroduction efforts in Colorado began in 1999. That an animal should be stripped of protection and immediately placed at risk simply for crossing an arbitrary border is outrageous and unacceptable.
Please, I urge you to ensure that lynx in New Mexico receive the federal protection they require and deserve. Thank you kindly for your swift action.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
