Remove Eric Anderson-Stop harassing Dog Rescuer
The Issue
A dog rescue, which has operated in San Luis Obispo County since 1997, has been harrassed by Eric Anderson, to the point that they have had to leave San Luis Obispo County for the safety of their foster dogs.
This is an absolutey No-Kill rescue operation that has had a permit in San Luis County since 1997, and has rescued and re-homed over 700 deathrow dogs. Dogs of all sizes, and all temperaments. The dogs lived in a home as family. The dogs had 2 acres to spend the day on. The dogs slept in the house at night. The dogs were placed in homes that were screened for compatibility. Those homes included 2 San Luis Obispo Assistant District Attornies, a Santa Barbara Police Officer, a Santa Barbara County Sheriff, and a retired Oceanside Police Detective. 5 of the foster dogs became service dogs for families in SLO County.
You can see pictures of how the dogs lived on the website www.dogrescuenetwork.org and also on Facebook. There are no pictures of the new place, since Anderson is searching for the new location in order to continue his harassment of the rescuer.
Unlike dogs sold by breeders, every rescued dog was spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.
Eric Anderson has waged a personal vendetta against this rescuer simply because she stood up to him. He has lied to his co-workers about the conditions the dogs live in. Lied to his superior, Jeff Hamm. Lied to other animal welfare groups. He has done so to justify his denial of the rescue's required permit.
An attorney has represented the rescue, pro bono, for almost 3 yrs trying to get Eric Anderson to stop the harrassment, and issue the required permit. To no avail. The persecution persisted. An agreed upon inspection schedule was enlisted. The inspection was video taped, and witnessed by an uninvolved third party. Eric Anderson fabricated the resulting inspection report, and flat out lied about several allegations. The eyewitness was later interrogated by the inspecting officer by phone. As was another local rescuer. That other rescuer was threatened with a possible denial of her permit, if she continued to have any kind of relationship with the rescuer being harrassed.
The latest denial was justified because the rescuer held a part-time job. The wire crates which she has used for her dogs daily, for the last 10 yrs, had some bent wires. There was some algae on the SIDE of one of the water buckets. The water was perfectly clear. But there was some algae, because the bucket is outside and gets some daylight. Anderson also alleges that the inspecting officer was bitten by one of the dogs. And that she had been bitten in the past. The law dictates that if someone is bitten, even an animal control officer, the biting dog must be quarantined. That has never happened to any of the dogs. Not EVER. Anderson lied in his report.
Eric Anderson even went so far as to threaten to take the rescuer's home. A rescuer, with a permit, does not have to license the foster dogs in their rescue. Since he WILL NOT grant her a permit, he can fine her nearly $7000/day for having unlicensed dogs at her rescue. This fine will be compounded daily, so that within a weeks time, the fine will be $50,000.00. The county can then put a lien against the rescuer's home, and force the sale of it to pay off the lien.
Eric Anderson is a SLO County employee, and therefore thinks he is untouchable. His supervisor, Jeff Hamm, was provided with pictures that show Anderson has lied in his report. He was told about the threat to the rescuer's home, the interrogation of the eyewitness, the lie about the officer being bitten. Jeff Hamm has chosen to do nothing.
Even the local newspapers won't report on this until it becomes sensational, ie, the rescuer loses her home, her dogs are impounded, and she is thrown in jail. Then it will sell newspapers. Right now it is just another story about a corrupt politician who uses his power to hurt people.
The rescuer has resorted to moving her operation outside of the county that Eric Anderson has juristiction of. He still won't leave her alone. He has demanded to know where she and the dogs are. Eric Anderson went through DMV records to try to find where the rescuer has moved.
He continues to threaten further action against her because she promotes her dogs for adoption on her website, and at adoption events in SLO county. Neither of these things is against the law. But Eric Anderson's sole purpose is to crush her rescue effort. Even though there has never been a complaint about the welfare of the dogs. Not in 15 yrs. Not ever. Eric Anderson is the picture of a schoolyard bully.
Eric Anderson won't issue her the necessary permit, and is now trying to stop her from re-homing the foster dogs in her care. What is his purpose for such action? Easy. Personal revenge.
Eric Anderson lives at 2047 Summit Drive in Paso Robles, Ca 93446. If he is your neighbor, you should know what kind of monster he is.
This man needs to be exposed, and removed from his position as manager of Animal Control. He obviously has no interest in animal welfare. He is a bully that needs to be stopped.
