End the production and consumption of foie gras

Dear Member of Congress,

I am concerned about the barbaric practice of foie gras production, which forces domesticated geese to endure great pain and suffering, as well as the consumption of foie gras itself in the United States. During their brief lives, the livers of these geese are enlarged to several times their natural size through the force feeding from a dispensing machine, which during the feeding process, is shoved down their throats. These animals are forced to remain in position while they struggle to resist what is obviously a painful and unpleasant process. In any other situation, animals in such a poor state of health would be immediately treated for a disease, and the perpetrators punished for abuse. But for the exclusive privilege of luxury foods consumers, these helpless and innocent animals endure cruel treatment just for a callous vanity. In a civilized society, we should know to treat the creatures of this world in a much better way, and not allow abuse to happen for any reason. I strongly urge you to consider ending this horrible practice and the consumption of foie gras through legislation. Thank you.
