It is dangerous and cruel to keep a dog tethered in a front yard unattended. Dogs that spend their lives on chains often become neurotic, aggressive and pathologically protective of the patch of dirt where they spend their lives. Frustrated and un-socialized, chained dogs pose a year-round danger to unsuspecting children who approach these dogs. Children are especially vulnerable. Each year thousands of children are mauled or killed by these dogs. Please help to end this cruel practice by signing the letter to your appointed officials.
Please End the Dangerous Practice of Dog Tethering in Yards
Greetings,
I am writing you to ask you to pass legislation to end the practice of tethering dogs in yards. Each year thousands of children are mauled or killed by dogs that were tethered in their front yards. Not only are the animals a nuisance to passersby, I believe it is cruel and dangerous for the animals to be left alone unattended for hours in the hot sun. Many owners even leave the animals without food or water. Furthermore it is well documented that the majority of attacks are by unattended Pit Bulls. It is my hope that many children's lives will be saved, and the animals will be treated better and with more dignity.
