Emerson students have spoken--and they want REAL food on campus!

In a survey of 100 students, Emerson kids said they want fresh, healthy food that's grown in a sustainable way.  They want to know where their food is coming from and how it's made.

As a college that prides itself on innovation in the arts, communication, and social issues, Emerson needs to join the growing movement of campuses across the nation that are bringing healthy, fresh, and sustainable foods into their dining facilities.

We, the undersigned, believe that Emerson College should commit itself to food that is truly just and sustainable.  For this reason, we request:

*Procurement of sustainable and just foods

*Public knowledge be made available on dining facility foods

*Sustainable waste disposal be made available

*Institutionalizing cooperation among the dining service provider, Emerson College, and students

Together, we can change Emerson's food landscape. It's time for our food to be as socially-conscious as we are!

Emerson College Sustainable Food Initiative

Greetings,

Emerson students have little to no knowledge on the food being served to them everyday in the campus dining facilities. A 2010 survey of nearly 100 Emerson students revealed that students are uninformed as to the source of the ingredients in their on-campus meals. Several students expressed concern over the potential health effects associated with available campus food options. Students unanimously agreed that they would like to know more about the sourcing of their food.
The majority of concerns about Emerson’s current offerings at campus dining facilities focus on four main issues: concern over unsustainable sourcing methods, limited nutritional options, limited diversity in ingredients, and limited freshness.
We, the undersigned, believe that Emerson College should commit itself to food that is truly just and sustainable, and that the following petition provides solutions to these issues. We request:

*Procurement of sustainable and just foods

*Public knowledge be made available on dining facility foods

*Sustainable waste disposal be made available

*Institutionalizing cooperation among the dining service provider, Emerson College, and students
