California is facing a great shortfall in our budget, and our governor is thinking of limiting the stay of animals in California shelters to only three days!!
To those of us who love and guard our pets, and those of us who have adopted from California's shelters, we say that this madness has to come to a stop. The budget gap is not worth the lives of innocent animals and family pets.
Many people lose their pets , and, even with microchipping, and other forms of identification, it can sometimes take weeks to locate a pet- weeks that, if the governor has his way- will be lost. Even worse will be the needless loss of life of pets that need a loving home - pets from deplorable conditions and abuse that just need a second chance.
Many of us have adopted our beloved pets from municipal and local shelters and they have become a part of our families. These are pets that came from homes of abuse and lives of unimaginable misery. Most of these pets have languished in shelters for days and weeks before they had the good fortune of coming into our lives and being loved and protected.
If this measure is passed, millions of cats and dogs that could go to loving homes that never had the chance, or- even worse- family pets that somehow escaped their loving families, only to be put down in a shelter without the love and comfort of their grieving families, and children that will never see their beloved pets.
Even if California isn't the state in which you reside, please sign. Many governors could also see this as a "reasonable" way to cut the expenses of other states. If you ever adopted a pet from a shelter, or lost a pet that you found at a shelter, please think of them and sign.
Thank you for signing!!
Please save the animals of California!
Dear Representatives,
It has come to our attention as Californians, Animal Lovers, and Pet Guardians that you have aimed to close the gap in California's budget crisis by cutting down the number of days that a pet is kept in local and municipal shelters in the state of California. To those of us who love and guard our pets, and those of us who have adopted from California's shelters, we say that this madness has to come to a stop. The budget gap is not worth the lives of innocent animals and family pets.
Yet, if your suggestion to cut the spending of the shelters of California is seen to fruition, there are countless other animals that will be unjustly deprived of that chance. Millions of cats and dogs that could go to loving homes that never had the chance, or- even worse- family pets that somehow escaped their loving families, only to be put down in a shelter without the love and comfort of their grieving families, and children that will never see their beloved pets.
Please, reconsider this unnecessary action that will deprive so many of such joy.
