Indiana legislators are considering a bill that would sanction so-called "canned hunting," where animals like deer, elk, and other game animals are kept fenced in, in order to make it easier for hunters to kill them. According to the Humane Society of the United States, if HB 1299 passes, Indiana would be the first state in the U.S. to legally sanction canned hunting.

Wildlife and animal welfare advocates like the HSUS and Born Free USA oppose this bill, and so do a lot of hunters. Join them and tell the Indiana House and Senate to vote no on HB 1299.

Please vote no on captive hunting

Greetings,

I was saddened to learn recently on Change.org that two Indiana legislators have introduced HB 1299, a bill which would allow captive hunting, or so-called "canned hunting," until at least 2018. I'm writing to strongly urge you to vote against this unnecessary legislation.

In captive hunting, game animals are enclosed in fenced-in areas, meaning that they can't run away. Many times, the animals are raised by humans, making them more sensitized to humans, including hunters. HB 1299 is opposed by animal protection and wildlife groups, as well as many hunters, who realize that canned hunting is bad policy.

If HB 1299 passes, Indiana will be the only U.S. state which gives an official OK to captive hunting. I hope you'll vote no on HB 1299.
