Dog Choked, Beaten, Throat Slit

Dog Choked, Beaten, Throat Slit
The Issue
Nicole Ann Anderson has been arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class 6 felony, after brutally slitting the throat of her boyfriend's Australian shepherd/Labrador mix, Reba, after the dog killed her poodle. The incident took place on June 21, 2010. The former nurse at Poudre Valley Hospital has stated that it took a considerable time to kill the large dog and that "it didn't go well".
After the bigger dog killed Anderson's dog Peaches, Anderson decided to retaliate by calling her sister, and then her ex-husband requesting a gun, however both refused to loan her one. At that point her ex-husband, Robert Anderson, came over to to assist her in killing Reba. Robert Anderson tried to choke the dog, then break the dog's neck, but as the dog resisted, he finally held the dog down while Nicole Anderson slit Reba's throat.
During a search of her home, officers found blood splatter in the garage, a large clean area of concrete in the middle of the splatter, cleaning materials and a pair of pink scrub pants with blood on them. They located the bodies of both dogs, wrapped in plastic, alongside trash bins outside the home.

While Nicole Anderson is facing the aggravated animal cruelty charges, her ex-husband is apparently not facing any charges. It is unclear why he is not being held accountable for his part in the killing.
Nicole Ann Anderson's arraignment was scheduled for Nov. 15. She has pleaded not guilty.
The trial is set for March 22. A Class 6 felony is punishable by 12 to 18 months of incarceration and fines of $1,000 to $100,000.
