On September 21, 2010, the It Gets Better Project was created as an internet-based project by Dan Savage in response to the alarming rate of gay teen suicides around the country. Since its creation, the project's Youtube channel has had more than 22,000 entries of videos created by people of all sexual orientations relaying the message that while life might seem difficult, unbearable, and even unlivable it does get better. Countless celebrities across the world have participated in creating these videos, from President Barack Obama, to Lady Gaga, to Tom Hanks.
Recently, five Major League Baseball teams have made headlines for their contributions. Starting with campaigns created on Change.org, the San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, and the Minnesota Twins have created or pledged to create a video to spread their message to LGBT teens across the country. I believe that the Detroit Tigers should follow the example set by these teams and create an It Gets Better video. This video would not only bring hope to fans of the Tigers, but to men, women, and children across the country who need the support to know that the bullies and adversaries that they face should not be the end - that eventually, it gets better and they need to live to see it get there.
This petition is for all fans, home or away, of the Detroit Tigers as well as all fans of baseball, and people in general asking our players to stand up for what's right, and let it be known that Detroit wants you to know "It Gets Better!"
Detroit Tigers: Please make an "It Gets Better" video
Hello,
I am writing to ask the Detroit Tigers to make an "It Gets Better" video.
We are asking our team to stand up for what's right, and let it be known that Detroit wants you to know "It Gets Better!"
Sincerely,
[Your name]
